CHATTANOOGA, TN------According to “Chattanooga Students, Principal Warned About Erratic Driving Before School Bus Wreck”, On Monday, November 21, 2016 shortly after departing from Woodmore Elementary School, Johnthony Walker the school bus driver, crashed on a curvy road with thirty-seven children on their way home, killing 5 students.

Before the crash had even occurred the students and administrators had expressed their concerns about Walker’s behavior while driving. One student wrote: “The bus driver drives fast. It feels like the bus is going to flip over...When someone is in the aisle he stops the bus and makes people hit their heads.” Another student also complained that, “The bus driver was doing sharp turns and he made me fly over to the next seat. We need seat belts.”

Carlis Shackelford, a behavioral specialist at the school, rode the bus on November 2, 2016 after Walker complained that the students were not listening to him. While on the bus a student had complained about the heat and cursed at Walker about it. Walker responded by stating that “--he had another job and driving the bus was just a part-time job.”

Complaints about Walker’s driving started in September after a parent wrote a letter explaining that Walker had cursed her kids and slammed on brakes. This caused them to hit their heads and fall out of the seats. “The parent wrote that if it happened again, she would take it upon herself ‘to beat his…….self’.”

Shortly after the crash, the school officials repeatedly refused to discuss whether anyone had complained about Walker’s driving. The school officials refused to discuss how they responded to the complaints.
