In the case of an emergency, a person will usually dial 911 to obtain help from the police department, fire department or emergency medical technicians. A 911 dispatcher is an individual who is responsible for getting the appropriate response to the site of an emergency as soon as someone calls 911.

Crenshanda Williams, 44, was sentenced to 10 days in jail and 18 months probation after a jury found her guilty of hanging up on Texas residents attempting to call 911.   As a dispatcher, they are supposed to take in information such as the caller’s name, location in which they are in and the details of the situation that person may be in.

According to foxnews.com, a former 911 dispatcher of Harris County, Texas, has been sentenced to jail time for hanging up the phone “thousands” of times on people who were attempting to call for emergencies.

Crenshanda Williams who is 44 years old was found guilty of interference with emergency telephone calls after “systematically” hanging up the phone on residents, KTRK reported.

For hanging up on these individuals, Williams was sentenced to 10 days in jail and 18 months probation.

Assistant District Attorney, Lauren Reeder said, “The citizens of Harris County rely on 911 operators to dispatch help in their time of need, when a public servant betrays the community's trust and breaks the law, we have a responsibility to hold them criminally accountable."

Court documents states that when Williams answered a 911 call from Jim Morten explaining two cars were excessively speeding down the highway, she replied with “Ain’t nobody got time for this. For real,” and proceeded to hang up the call.

By hanging up a 911 call, the dispatcher is not in anyway helping the individual with their situation. The dispatcher could have potentially saved a life or put a stop to a crime but instead hung up on several phone calls in which people needed help.
