A 19 year old orphan with a troubled past and an AR-15 rifle was charged with multiple counts of murder on Wednesday February 14, 2018 after being questioned for hours by many authorities following the deadliest school shooting in the United States in the last five years.

There were 14 wounded people hospitalized and bodies were recovered from inside and outside of Majory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Nikolas Cruz was ordered held without bond and put into jail after killing 17 people and injuring about 14.

He was an orphan living with family friends after his mother died of pneumonia in November. Jim Lewis, the family’s  lawyer said that Cruz had refused to get up Wednesday morning.

Mr. Lewis says Cruz said something to the effect of “I don’t go to school on Valentine’s Day.”

People who knew Cruz described him as a “troubled kid” who liked to show off his firearms and kill animals. Some say his mother would result to calling the police to talk some sense into him.

Cruz’s former classmates thought they were having a normal fire drill Wednesday afternoon when they heard the fire alarm go off, which required them to leave their classrooms.

Police say Cruz was equipped with a gas mask, smoke grenades, and multiple magazines of ammunition. He opened fire with semi-automatic weapon, sending hundreds of students and faculty into the streets. This has been the nation’s deadliest school shooting since the December 14, 2012, assault at Sandy Hook Elementary School which killed 20 first-graders and six staff members.

“It is very sad and disturbing that kids can’t come to school and feel safe,” says Cristen Quillen, a senior at Pocomoke High School.

Not long after the shooting Wednesday afternoon, Cruz was found walking down the street in a cul-de-sac, in an instant police showed up and officers quickly drew their guns.

The police took Cruz into custody and he was taken to the hospital, there he was also questioned.
