The Pocomoke High School’s girls’ varsity basketball team defeated Crisfield Monday night, 44-38. The Lady Warriors played a great game. Their defense was a key component in their win over the Lady Crabbers. After falling short to Wi-Hi, Stephen Decatur, and Kent Island, the Lady Warriors stepped on the court with something to prove.

At halftime the Warriors were up by four, but as soon as the third quarter began, their game turned around quickly. They came out ready to play. Working together as a team they were able to have many steals, blocks, and rebounds. Their fast pace on the offensive end caused them not only to score more but draw fouls as well. Their defensive game worked out perfectly. While playing in their press, the Lady Warriors caused the Lady Crabbers to turn the ball over multiple times by pressuring the ball.

Ending the game Piajah Johnson had 20 points, 26 rebounds, DeShonda Dennis had 7 points, and Ajah Kellam had 4 points and 10 steals. Defense was a huge impact on the Lady Warriors’ win. If they keep this up there is no doubt that the rest of their season will be great. This is the second win for new head coach Corey Zimmer and we are looking forward to many more. This is only the beginning of a fantastic season for the Lady Warriors.
