When kids go to school the only worry they should ever have is studying for a big test they might have in their next class. Getting an education is the number one priority but having to wonder if they are safe in their classrooms can affect that.

According to popsugar.com, there have been 18 school shootings in America in 2018.

It is only the second month into 2018 and the fact that there has already been 18 school shootings is very frightening.

A little over a week ago there was a horrible massacre in Florida at a high school where 17 people were killed. For those that attended that school and worked there they never would have thought something so terrible could happen to the place they used to feel safe at.

Shootings and threats are becoming more common than they should be and it is making today’s society scared to even go to school.

“I do not feel as safe as I should coming to school anymore because of all of the school shootings and the threats happening,” said Pocomoke High School senior, Diamonique Taylor.

School is supposed to be a place of comfort where you come to learn and be social with peers. Feeling anxious if a tragedy like the others is going to happen to your school is not something people should have to worry about, but it is happening.

According to nbcnews.com, there was once a mass shooting in Australia and after that occured new gun laws were created and it has been about 20 years since then and there has been zero shooting incidents.

Actions are hopefully going to be taken against these horrific incidents and creating stricter gun laws may be a start to distinguishing these terrible shootings in America.
