83% of schools start before 8:30 a.m., but 90% of teens wish school started later on in the day, according to ABC news. Starting early in the morning could cost teens lack of sleep, which is not good for teens health. Sophomore Traver Merchant responded with, “ I’m definitely not a morning person, therefore if school started later i would be more attentive and learn more.”

Although a lot of students agree with Merchant, some adults disagree with school starting later on in the day. Mother of Traver Merchant had said, “ If school started later in the day i would not have any way of getting my son to school because i have work. “

Other parents would wish their child went to school later as well. Some say it gives them time in the morning to eat as a family and their child won’t be in a rush. One parent has said “ I will then know if my child is getting enough sleep. “ If you don’t get enough sleep your body may not build up enough energy therefore your body can not fight off chemicals and germs from getting sick.

Sophomore Chase Fisher, had mentioned, “If school started later on in the day, and not early in the morning, I would be able to go hunting during hunting seasons, and not have to worry about being late to school.” Starting school later will give students more opportunities to either sleep, or even be like Chase Fisher and go hunting.
