The Importance of Teens Getting Enough Sleep

    It is important for teens to get enough sleep. Many teens do not get enough sleep because they are staying up late at night. There are many health risks when it comes to teens not getting enough sleep.

    According to the US News, less than 9 percent of teens get the amount of sleep they need to stay healthy.

    Many things keep teens from getting the amount of sleep they need. TV, video games, homework, phones, and extracurriculars are just a few.

    The amount of sleep teens get lessens throughout their years of school. Teens also experience a shift in their sleep schedule as they go through puberty. They stay up later and sleep in later.

    There are an array of things that could help teens get more sleep. A later school start time could let students sleep in a few more hours before school. A decrease of caffeine in teen’s diets would also allow for teens to falls asleep easier and get more sleep.

    Many teens are expected to carry out their responsibilities without problems, but a lack of sleep makes even everyday tasks difficult for teens.
